How to Set Up and Use the Tipping Module

The Tipping module allows your community to support you directly via a dedicated public tip page. Unlike other platforms, StreamerCatalyst takes no platform cut; the only deductions are Stripe’s standard card processing fees.

Every successful tip triggers a catalyst.tip event, which integrates automatically with your Events module rewards, Numbers module analytics, and Widgets module overlays.

Step 1: Set up your payouts

Before you can accept money, you must connect a payment method via Stripe Express.

  1. Navigate to the Payments page in your dashboard.
  2. Select your country and complete the Stripe onboarding process (this includes providing identity and bank account details).
  3. Once complete, the Payments page will show your payout status and recent payouts.

Note: StreamerCatalyst never sees or stores your bank details; these are handled securely by Stripe.

Step 2: Configure your tip page

Once payouts are active, you need to define how your tipping experience looks and functions.

  1. Enable the page: Go to Settings and toggle on Enable public page. The page will not accept tips until payouts are set up.
  2. Set currency and amounts: In Settings, choose your tip currency and define your minimum/maximum amounts and preset button values.
    • Warning: The currency is locked while a goal is active. You must archive any active goal before changing your currency.
  3. Choose your fee mode: Decide who covers Stripe’s processing fees:
    • Tipper pays the fee (Default): The viewer is charged the fee on top of their tip (e.g., a $5 tip costs the viewer $5.46, and you receive $5.00).
    • Fee deducted from tip: The viewer is charged the tip amount, and the fee is taken from your payout (e.g., a $5 tip results in you receiving $4.55).
  4. Set moderation rules: In Settings, you can configure message length (up to 500 characters), enable a profanity filter, or set rules to strip URLs. You can also choose to “Hold anonymous messages” in the approval queue to prevent spam.

Go to the Overview page and copy your unique public tip page link. It follows this format: streamercatalyst.com/tip/<your-twitch-login>.

Add this link to your Twitch panels, social media profiles, and chat commands to direct viewers to your page.

Worked Example: Running a “New Mic” Donation Goal

In this scenario, you want to raise $100 for a new microphone and show progress and alerts to your viewers.

1. Create the Goal

Navigate to the Goal tab. Set a target amount of $100. You can give the goal a title (e.g., “New Microphone Fund”) and set an optional start or end date. The goal will now display a progress bar on your public tip page.

2. Display Progress on Stream

To show your progress to viewers, add a Goal Progress widget from the Widgets module. You can select your active tipping goal as the source for the widget to display a progress bar, radial, or thermometer visualization.

3. Set Up On-Screen Alerts

To celebrate each tip with an animation, use the Alerts widget in the Widgets module. This widget handles tip alerts by playing them in a sequential queue with customizable styles.

4. Manage the Campaign

As viewers tip, you can monitor activity on your Overview page.

  • Moderation: If a viewer leaves a message that hits your profanity filter or is anonymous, it will appear in the History tab’s message-approval queue. You can approve it to send it to your alerts or reject it.
  • Off-platform tips: If someone tips you via a different method (like a direct bank transfer), you can manually adjust your goal progress in the Goal tab to ensure your progress bar stays accurate.

5. Closing the Goal

Once you reach $100, go to the Goal tab and select Archive. This freezes the final total and moves it to Past goals, allowing you to start a new goal for a different item.
