Running a Hype Weekend with the Events Module
The Events module allows you to automate rewards when your viewers hit specific milestones, such as cheering bits, gifting subscriptions, or following your channel. This guide walks you through setting up a “Hype Weekend” event to incentivize community engagement.
Prerequisites
- Subscription Tier: You must be at the Affiliate tier or higher to use the Events module. See Module access by tier for details.
- Widgets (Optional): To show your progress on-screen, you will need access to the Widgets module.
The Scenario: “Hype Weekend”
You want to run a limited-time event where:
- Viewers earn a special chat shoutout for every 1,000 bits cheered (counting their total bits for the weekend).
- Viewers earn a giveaway entry for every 5 gifted subscriptions.
Step 1: Create the Event Window
In StreamerCatalyst, rules do not run in isolation; they must belong to an event. An event is a specific time window, and only one event can be active at a time.
- Navigate to the Events dashboard.
- Create a new event titled “Hype Weekend.”
- Set your start and end times to define the window of opportunity.
- (Optional) Set an overall event goal to track total community participation.
Step 2: Configure Reward Rules
Now, you will define the specific triggers within your “Hype Weekend” event.
Rule A: The Bit Milestone (Cumulative Mode)
To ensure viewers are rewarded for their total contribution throughout the weekend, use Cumulative mode.
- Add a new rule to your “Hype Weekend” event.
- Trigger Type: Select
bits. - Threshold: Set to
1000. - Mode: Enable Cumulative mode. This ensures that if a viewer cheers 500 bits on Friday and 500 bits on Saturday, they trigger the reward once the running total hits 1,000. This mode also includes retroactive backfill for bits cheered once the rule is active.
- Action: Select
Post a templated chat messageto announce the milestone in your chat.
Rule B: The Gifted Sub Giveaway (Giveaway Entry)
To drive subscription growth, you can reward gifters with entries into a giveaway.
- Add a second rule to the same event.
- Trigger Type: Select
gifted subs. - Threshold: Set to
5. - Action: Select
grant giveaway entries.
Step 3: Display Progress on Stream
To build hype, your viewers need to see how close they are to the goals.
- Open the Widgets configuration.
- Select the Goal progress widget.
- Configure the widget to track your “Hype Weekend” event goal or a specific rule’s goal.
- Add the widget to your Catalyst Scene and capture it in your streaming software (e.g., OBS).
Step 4: Manage and Fulfill Rewards
As the weekend progresses, rewards will be recorded in the system.
- Monitor Earnings: Use the Leaderboards to see your top gifters and cheerers for the event.
- Fulfilment Pipeline: For rewards that require manual action (like sending a physical prize or a manual gift), use the fulfillment pipeline. Every earn is recorded and moves through three stages:
- Pending: The reward has been triggered but not yet processed.
- Claimed: The viewer has acknowledged the reward.
- Completed: The reward has been fully delivered.
- Manual Grants: If a viewer supports you via an off-Twitch method (like a donation via Throne), you can use Manual grants to give them the same reward as if they had triggered a Twitch event.
