Tipping module
The Tipping module lets your community support you directly. Viewers pay on your own tip page, the money goes to your bank through Stripe, and each settled tip becomes a catalyst.tip event that travels the same pipeline as your subs and bits — reward rules, analytics, overlays, and a chat shout-out.
StreamerCatalyst takes no cut of your tips. The only deduction is Stripe’s card processing, and you choose whether tippers cover it or it comes out of the tip.
Available on the Free tier and above. See Module access by tier.
At a glance
| Page | What it does |
|---|---|
| Overview | Today / 7-day / 30-day totals, your active goal, your public tip-page link, and the most recent tips |
| History | The full tip ledger with status filters and CSV export, plus the message-approval queue |
| Goal | One active donation goal, its progress bar, and manual adjustments for off-platform tips |
| Settings | Turn the public page on, pick your currency, amounts, fee mode, and message/anonymity rules |
| Payments | Stripe Express onboarding, payout status, recent payouts, and disconnect (broadcaster only) |
The broadcaster and Lead Mods can change settings, edit goals, record manual tips, and approve messages. Regular mods get read-only access, and Payments is broadcaster-only — payouts are your own money.
Setting up
- Payments → Set up payouts. Pick your country and complete Stripe’s onboarding (identity, bank account). StreamerCatalyst never sees or stores your bank details — Stripe does.
- Settings → Enable public page. Until payouts are set up, the page can’t accept tips.
- Settings → Currency, amounts, fee mode. Set your minimum, maximum, and the preset buttons viewers see.
- Overview → copy your tip page link and share it in chat, your panels, and your socials.
Payouts are available in the countries Stripe Connect supports (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore, and most of the EU/EEA). If your country isn’t eligible, the Payments page says so instead of starting onboarding.
Your public tip page
Your page lives at streamercatalyst.com/tip/<your-twitch-login> and is public — no login required to tip. Older tips.streamercatalyst.com/tip/<your-twitch-login> links keep working and redirect to it, so anything you’ve already put in a panel, profile, or chat command stays valid.
- Tip as yourself or anonymously. A viewer can sign in with Twitch (a one-click round trip that reads nothing but their identity) so you see who tipped, or tip anonymously. Anonymous tips are anonymous by construction: there’s no “type your name” box to spoof, and no payer identity is ever stored on the tip.
- Amounts. Your preset buttons plus a custom amount, bounded by the minimum and maximum you set. Zero-decimal currencies (JPY and friends) are handled correctly.
- Message. Optional, capped at your configured length (500 characters max).
- Bot protection. Every submission is gated by a Cloudflare Turnstile check, then handed to Stripe Checkout for payment. Card details never touch StreamerCatalyst.
- Your goal. If a goal is active, the page shows its title and progress.
Turning Enable public page off pauses tipping — the page stops accepting new tips while your history, goal, and payouts stay intact.
Fees and payouts
There is no StreamerCatalyst platform fee. Stripe’s published card rate (2.9% + 30¢ on USD, equivalent elsewhere) is the only cost, and the fee mode on the Settings page decides who absorbs it:
| Fee mode | On a $5 tip | You receive |
|---|---|---|
| Tipper pays the fee (default) | The tipper is charged $5.46 | $5.00 |
| Fee deducted from tip | The tipper is charged $5.00 | $4.55 |
The Settings page previews both using your own currency and first preset amount.
Money is paid out by Stripe Express on Stripe’s standard schedule for your country, straight to the bank account you connected. The Payments page shows your payout status (and any outstanding Stripe requirements — verification documents and the like) plus your recent payouts with their arrival dates. Disconnect stops all future payouts; tips already in flight still settle.
Currency
Your channel has one tip currency, chosen in Settings from the currencies Stripe Connect settles. Two things to know before you change it:
- Changing currency resets cumulative-rule progress in the Events module — tip totals in the old currency aren’t converted.
- The currency is locked while a goal is active. Archive the goal first.
Minimum, maximum, and preset amounts are entered in major units (5, 10, 25) and stored exactly.
Messages, approval, and anonymity
Tip messages reach your overlays and your chat, so they get their own controls:
- Message length cap — up to 500 characters.
- Strip links — remove URLs before the message goes anywhere.
- Profanity filter — censor common profanity.
- Hold anonymous messages (on by default) and Hold verified messages (off by default) — held messages wait in the approval queue on History instead of going straight to alerts and chat.
- Allow anonymous tips — turn it off to require Twitch sign-in.
Approving a held message releases it to alerts and chat; rejecting suppresses it. Either way the tip itself still counts toward your totals, your goal, and reward rules — approval gates only the text. A tip whose message is still held is announced without it.
Goals
A donation goal is a target with a progress bar: title, target amount, an optional starting amount (credit for money raised before the goal existed), and optional start/end dates. One goal is active at a time; Archive freezes its final total and moves it to Past goals, freeing you to start the next one.
Progress isn’t a running tally that can drift — it’s derived on every read from:
- settled tips in the goal’s currency created inside the goal’s window, plus
- your manual adjustments, plus
- the starting amount.
That means a tip that settles late is picked up automatically, and a refunded or disputed tip drops out of the bar on its own.
Manual adjustments
Received something off-platform (PayPal, Ko-fi, cash at a meetup)? Manual adjustments move the bar by hand.
Adding to a goal fires the same alert, chat announcement, and reward pipeline a real tip does. You can attribute the credit to a Twitch username (it shows as Anonymous when left blank), or untick Announce like a real tip to move the bar silently. Subtractions never announce, and the note you attach stays private — it is never published to chat or an overlay.
Adjustments live in the goal’s own ledger and don’t appear in your tip history or tip totals; they also can’t be reversed by a catalyst.tip.revoked event, because there was never a payment behind them.
Manual tips
Separate from goal adjustments, the broadcaster or a Lead Mod can record an off-platform tip on the ledger itself. A manual tip is stored as settled, counts in your totals and history, and emits catalyst.tip like any other — so it reaches rewards, Numbers, widgets, and chat. It can be attributed to a Twitch username or left anonymous. Manual tips have no payment behind them, so they can’t be refunded.
History and the ledger
Every tip lands in the ledger with a status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| pending | Checkout started, payment not confirmed yet |
| settled | Paid — counted in totals, goals, and the event fan-out |
| refunded | Refunded; the tip is reversed out of totals and goals |
| disputed | The cardholder opened a chargeback |
Filter by status, and Export CSV for your bookkeeping. Anonymous rows never carry payer identity — not in the UI, not in the export.
Settlement normally happens within seconds of payment. If a payment notification is ever missed, a sweep every five minutes settles anything left pending, so tips can’t get stuck — though a tip settled long after the fact settles quietly rather than announcing a stale shout-out in chat.
Refunds and chargebacks are handled by StreamerCatalyst support: a refund reverses the transfer from your connected account, marks the tip refunded, and emits catalyst.tip.revoked so totals, goals, and analytics correct themselves. Chat messages already sent are not retracted.
Where tips show up
A settled tip fans out across the platform:
| Destination | What you get |
|---|---|
| Events | The Tips rule trigger — reward rules that fire on tip thresholds, single or cumulative |
| Numbers | Tips and Tips (amount) as KPI cards and chart metrics, per stream session |
| Widgets | Tip alerts, the tip-goal source for the Goal Progress widget, and time/progress on the Subathon Timer and Subathon Goals widgets |
| Chatters | A templated chat shout-out on each settled tip (Chatters → Tip Announcements) |
| Dashboard home | Tips and Tip Goal cards, and tips in the Activity feed |
| Custom widgets | catalyst.tip on the SC runtime, and StreamElements-style tip-latest events |
A revoked tip (refund or chargeback) is corrected in totals, goals, and analytics — chat and overlay alerts already shown are not retracted.
Tips & ideas
| Idea | How |
|---|---|
| Subathon funded by tips | Set Minutes / $1 tip on the Subathon Timer widget, then sync the Subathon Goals ladder with your active tipping goal |
| Tip reward ladder | Tip rules at $10 / $50 / $100 in Events; set Unlock Lower Rewards to “Once each” so a big tip doesn’t flood your pending list |
| Keep chat clean | Leave Hold anonymous messages on and turn on Strip links — anonymous text is the usual source of trouble |
| Cover your own fees | Leave fee mode on Tipper pays so a “$25 tip” is $25 in your pocket |
| Migrate an existing goal | Create the goal with a starting amount equal to what you’ve already raised elsewhere |
