Setting up Auto-Shoutouts with Modomation

The Auto-shoutout feature allows you to automatically recognize specific viewers—such as fellow streamers, community pillars, or regular raiders—when they chat in your channel. Unlike manual commands, this system works from a curated list that you manage.

Prerequisites

To use the Native Twitch shoutout feature, your StreamerCatalyst connection must have the moderator:manage:shoutouts scope. If you connected your account before this scope was available, the dashboard will prompt you to re-authorize your account.

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Access the Auto-Shoutout Settings

Open the Modomation section in your StreamerCatalyst dashboard sidebar and navigate to Auto-Shoutouts.

2. Curate Your Shoutout List

Only people you manually add to this list will ever be shouted out.

  • Note: You cannot add yourself; the broadcaster is never shouted out by the system.

3. Configure Message Variants

You can customize what the shoutout message says based on whether the chatter is currently live or what game they were last playing. Modomation looks up this information from the chatter’s channel at the time the message is sent.

There are four messages available, each supporting up to 500 characters:

4. Use Template Variables

To make your messages dynamic, use the following template tokens in your message fields:

5. Set the Cooldown

To prevent chat spam, configure a global cooldown for shoutouts:

  • Once per stream: The default setting; the cooldown resets each time you go live.
  • Fixed interval: Set a custom interval from 1 second to 24 hours (presets for 5 min, 15 min, and hourly are available).

6. (Optional) Enable Native Twitch Shoutouts

You can choose to have Modomation fire Twitch’s built-in shoutout in addition to your custom chat message.

  • Set the Native Twitch shoutout default in the global settings.
  • This feature only works while you are live.
  • It is “best-effort,” meaning if the native shoutout fails, your chat message will still be sent.

Per-User Overrides

If you want certain people in your curated list to behave differently than the global settings, you can apply overrides to individual users:

  • Message: Provide a custom message that takes precedence over all global variants.
  • Cooldown: Choose to inherit the global setting, set it to “once per stream,” or use a custom interval.
  • Native shoutout: Choose to inherit the global default, force it on, or force it off.
