Planning Your Next Stream with Stream Planner
The Stream Planner module helps you organize your broadcasts by providing Kanban and table boards to manage stream segments, talking points, sponsor reminders, community shout-outs, and post-stream to-dos.
This guide walks you through a typical workflow: planning a structured variety stream.
1. Create a Planning Board
The first step is to create a dedicated space for your stream. Because each board is an independent planning space, you might create one board for “Weekly Planning” and another specific board for a “Special Event.”
- Open Stream Planner from your dashboard sidebar.
- Use the interface to create a new board.
- Give your board a descriptive name (e.g., “Friday Variety Night”).
[!NOTE] Board limits depend on your subscription tier. The Free tier allows for 1 board, Affiliate allows 3, and Partner/Partner+ tiers allow unlimited boards. See the Tier comparison for more details.
2. Organize Your Content
Once your board is created, you can begin adding the building blocks of your stream. Each item in a board is a card that includes a title, an optional description, and a status.
Adding Items
Add items for every component of your upcoming stream:
- Segments: “Minecraft Survival” or “Just Chatting.”
- Talking Points: “Mention new merch launch” or “Announce upcoming tournament.”
- To-dos: “Check audio levels” or “Update stream title.”
Choosing Your View
Stream Planner offers two ways to visualize your data. Switching between these views never loses your content:
- Kanban View: Best for visual flow. You can use columns (such as “To Do,” “In Progress,” and “Done”) and drag-and-drop items to move them across columns or reorder them.
- Table View: Best for detailed oversight. This provides a spreadsheet-style layout with sortable columns, making it easier to scan through many items at once.
3. Example Workflow: The “Variety Stream” Setup
To see how this works in practice, follow this worked example:
- Initialize: Create a new board named
Friday Variety. - Populate: Add the following items to your board:
- Item:
Intro & Warmup| Description:Play chill lo-fi music and greet chat. - Item:
Sponsor Segment| Description:Read the prepared script for [Sponsor Name]. - Item:
Community Games| Description:Play Jackbox with viewers.
- Item:
- Structure: Switch to Kanban view. Create columns for
Pre-Stream,Live, andCompleted. - Execute: During your stream, as you finish the
Intro & Warmup, drag that item from thePre-Streamcolumn to theLivecolumn. Once finished, move it toCompleted.
4. Team Collaboration (Partner+ Only)
If you are on the Partner+ tier, you don’t have to plan alone. You can grant access to your Lead Mods and Mods so they can view and interact with your boards, helping them stay aligned with your segment order and talking points during the live broadcast.
Technical Reference For developers looking to integrate these features, see the Stream Planner — API endpoints for details on managing boards and items via HTTP.
